This is an affecting story read from a notebook by an old man to an old woman in an asylum. It tells about the relations between a young man and a beautiful girl of different social levels who live in the Northern Carolina. Noah and Allie spend together an unforgettable summer till they are separated, firstly, by Allie’s parents and then by World War II. After the end of the war Noah returns home but Allie has already been engaged to a successful businessman and is going to become his wife soon. The man settles alone in an ancient house which he restores specially for Allie. She learns about it from the local newspaper and realizes she must find him and decide the fate of their love.
