Three men pursue, often at the expense of others, information about the location of a buried treasure of coins. The first character introduced in the movie is Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez (the Ugly) - called Tuco, who has a bounty on his head for numerous crimes. Tuco has a partnership with Blondie (the Good) in which the latter turns him in for the reward money which the two then split after Blondie saves Tuco from hanging at the last moment. Meanwhile, a third character called Angel Eyes (the Bad) has learned of a hidden trunk of gold owned by a Confederate soldier named Bill Carson. Against the backdrop of the Civil War, they search for a fortune in gold buried in a graveyard. Each knows only a portion of the gold's exact location, so for the moment they're dependent on each other. However, none is particularly inclined to share...

In 2003, Doctor Serena Kogan of Cyberdyne Systems convinces death row inmate Marcus Wright to sign his body over for medical research following his execution by lethal injection. In 2018, after an unsuccessful attack to a Skynet facility, the only apparent survivor of the attack, John Connor, discovers that Skynet is developing the powerful new model T-800. However, Marcus emerges from the wreckage of the base and proceeds on foot to Los Angeles, where he is saved from a T-600 Terminator by Kyle Reese and his mute companion Star. Meanwhile, the Resistance discovers a radio signal believed to be capable of shutting down Skynet machines and John offers to turn it. Hearing John's radio broadcast, the together leave Los Angeles in search of the Resistance. They survive an attack by machines, but Kyle, Star, and several other humans are taken prisoner. Marcus decides to help them and makes his way to Skynet; on the way, he saves Blair Williams who suggests him to meet John Connor first. But Marcus is wounded by a magnetic land mine and is submitted to a surgery, when a secret about his origins is disclosed.
